Picture of thyroid gland diseases and surgery

Picture of thyroid gland: By looking at the picture of thyroid gland, we come to know that it is brownish-red and highly vascular gland located anteriorly in the lower neck, extending from the level of the fifth cervical vertebra down to the first thoracic. It is formed like a “bow tie,” having two halves (lobes): a right lobe and a left lobe tied by an “isthmus.” Thyroid gland is one of the endocrine glands, which makes hormones to control physiological functions in the body of human beings. The thyroid gland makes thyroid hormone, which helps the rate at which the human body carries on its required purpose.
Picture of Thyroid gland and its surgery: Doctors analyze the need for surgery by looking at the picture of thyroid gland. Primary treatment for papillary and follicular carcinoma is surgical excision whenever possible which means removal of thyroid gland through surgery. Total thyroidectomy has been the mainstay for treating complicated thyroid carcinoma. In this type of treatment, surgical removal of all apparent thyroid tissue is performed. The major complications in this procedure are recurrent laryngeal nerve injury and hypoparathyroidism from damage or removal of the parathyroid glands.
Picture of Thyroid gland and associated diseases: By looking at the picture of neck one can make out that there is thyroid gland disease. The entire neck looks swollen because of thyroid gland disease. There are specific thyroid diseases which include Goiter, Graves’ disease, Hashimoto’s Disease, Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, Hyperthyroidism, Hypothyroidism, Thyroid Nodules and Thyroiditis. Graves’ is the most common form of hyperthyroidism. It occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid gland and causes it to overproduce the hormone called thyroxine. This abnormal immune response can also affect the tissue behind the eyes as well as the skin, usually on lower legs and feet. Goiter is an enlargement of your thyroid gland. Although generally not uncomfortable, goiter can interfere with swallowing or breathing. Hashimoto’s disease is also known as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis and it causes inflammation of thyroid gland that often leads to underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism). It’s an autoimmune disorder in which immune system inappropriately attacks thyroid gland, causing damage to thyroid cells. It also upsets the balance of chemical reactions in body.
