How to prevent exploitation of online private details
It is very important to keep your personal private details as private as possible. With sites like facebook or Craigslist, there must be an implemented rule and warning notices where it would be very visible for everyone to see that what they put on their online profile could actually do them more harm than good.
Unawareness of the problem is the basic issue and it should be resolved as quickly as possible so that the facebook users and other users of similar sites would realize that this type of socializing can actually be very dangerous. People don’t know and they don’t realize that a friendly site such as facebook could be really harmful under the eyes of criminals and stalkers. There has to be an awareness drive that would educate people and would make them aware of the potential problem and so they could protect themselves by avoiding the temptation to upload photos or post very detailed information on their pages. It’s really not far-fetched and it can be done as long as somebody will take action. It’s dangerous and that is the bottom line. Anything that could pose a threat to the society should be looked at and actions should be taken to avoid any potential problems to arise.
